I got a little note on Saturday Morning, it said "Check me out, I am beautiful!" Of course I headed right over to the source, Freshwater Fibers. And the note was so right. There were big baskets full of luscious soft natural fiber yarns, all variegated and glorious. A vase full of fresh flowers, felted hats and hand woven scarves, rag rugs on the wall and even knitting themed earrings. All the colors of the rainbow layered and mixed and matched in a perfectly delightful jumble. A visual and textural feast!
Melody McKenzie, the creator of all this color, has been a Market member for thirteen years, so she's had lots of time to refine her craft and her display. Clean white walls frame the colorful baskets of multicolored, hand dyed yarns. Sorted by fiber type, clearly signed and labeled, with knitted samples to help with the decision making of what exactly to buy. Fresh flowers pick up the colors in the yarns, and the variety of items work together in harmony. She tells me used to sell hand-spun yarn as well, and more weaving, but now focusses her production time on her most popular item, the hand dyed yarn. Weaving still has a place, though, in the rag rugs woven from the loops that they cut off the ends of athletic socks when they sew up the toes.
Melody doesn't have a permanent booth space, so you'll have to seek her out on your own, or just ask at the Info booth. Stop by and feast your eyes!
