August 2011: Paulette Richards
August is the perfect time to think about relaxation. It’s the traditional time for frolicking, vacationing, playing, having a fun and recreating ourselves. But frolic a bit too much and yeeouch! It’s time for some relief for those over-played muscles.
Paulette Richards has a background in occupational therapy. In that line of work she realized there was a need for a good, simple, natural, non-drug way to help her clients manage the various aches and pains that were slowing them down. Flax seed packs proved to be a perfect answer. A pillow full of flax seeds provides a nice, even, moist heat when warmed briefly in a microwave. It can also be frozen to make a cold pack. The seeds shape easily around sore areas, and can be heated and frozen repeatedly without breaking down.
Paulette’s flax seed pillows are made in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, to cover a wide variety of sore muscles. She makes wide over-the-shoulder collars, heart shaped chest pillows, slippers to warm the feet, long rectangles for general use, and even smaller neck packs for cooling you down in the summer. The variety of shapes are just one unique feature of Paulette’s work. She also includes aromatic healing herbs such as lavender, rosemary and mint in her pillows for different therapeutic effects. As you can see, they are beautifully colorful, and very soft to the touch.
