Assistant Market Manager

Summary:

This is a 32+ hours per week, year-round position that works cooperatively with the General Manager in the overall management and daily operation of Saturday Market. This position requires working Tuesday through Friday in our office and Saturdays from April through mid-November and Saturdays and Sundays (with some weekdays), mid-November through December 24 th. The Assistant Market Manager provides a variety of book-keeping, clerical, administrative, customer service and operational support, which includes handling accounts payable and receivable, deposits, budget reconciliation, creating and using spreadsheets, receiving and tracking fees, screening of and providing information to callers and visitors, providing excellent customer service at our information booth at Saturday Market and Holiday Market and onsite Tuesday Market support for Saturday Market members. In addition to providing customer service to our members and their customers, this position is the point of contact with the public and local government employees and their contractors. This position reports to the General Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

* Maintains and updates accounting software (Quickbooks Online)

• Prepares deposits and processes credit card payments

• Assists General Manager in supervision of Market assistants, Site Crew, security staff and volunteers with General Manager

• Establishes and maintains a positive, high profile relationship with members, staff and general public.

• Supervises Market day activities. Activities can include info booth breakdown, customer service, and interacting with members and the general public to assure the safety, security and cleanliness of the Market.

• Working Saturday Market is mandatory (including the weekend of Oregon Country Fair)

• Perform day-to-day administrative tasks

• Operational support such as supply sourcing, ordering and inventory

• Tasks associated with preparing for New Member Orientations and Product Screenings and other Committee meetings

• Prepares, reviews and proofs documents for accuracy, makes necessary corrections, sorts and files documents according to filing system

• Operates a variety of office equipment


Minimum Qualifications:

• Good communication skills

• Ability to deal effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds

• Ability to keep a clear head when faced with stressful situations

• Experience working in Quickbooks/Quickbooks Online and related bookkeeping software

• Knowledge of “best practices” office procedures, including record- keeping

• Proficient use of MS Office Suite (especially Word and Excel).

• Excellent cash-handling practices and arithmetic

• Exceptional customer service skills

• Must have good attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills

• Must effectively conduct quality control on one’s own work

• Well-developed oral and written communication skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion

• Honest

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Must commit to working every Saturday including the Saturday of Oregon Country Fair.


Education: Minimum, two years of post-secondary education (Bachelor’s degree preferred)

Experience: Minimum, two years of administrative experience


Additional Information & Benefits:

• Hourly Wage: $21-$23 per hour, depending on experience

• Work Schedule: 32+ hours per week, including Saturdays

• Upon a satisfactory evaluation after a 3-month probationary period, the position becomes permanent.

• Employee will earn/receive holiday, vacation, and sick leave when the position becomes permanent according to the personnel policies

Site Crew Member

General Statement of Duties

A Site Crew staff member is part of a crew that is responsible for setting up and taking down the infrastructure of the Market before and after regular market hours. Site Crew members are supervised by the Site Operations Supervisor or supervisor on site, and support the Eugene Saturday Market in various ways.  This is a split shift position. The hours for this position will usually be Saturday 5:00AM – 10:15AM and 3:30PM – 9:00PM, but workers should be prepared to change schedules as needed. Responsible for helping the market managers, the events management staff and the security to regulate activities of market members and the public in accordance with market rules, various municipal regulations and the rules of common sense. A Site Crew member is not an enforcer, but a communicator of information. They should be able to effectively communicate guidelines to market members and patrons in all types of situations and they should be able to communicate important situational information to market managers in a timely and effective manner. This position is team-oriented.

Specific Responsibilities:

This job entails setting up and taking down the tents, tables, chairs, fences and other duties involved with creating a public marketplace. This job requires constant vigilance and attention to surroundings during working hours. Site Crew Members are the first line of safety for the Market and also Market’s representatives to the public. They must arrive on time and check in with the Site Operations Supervisor.

This position is physical and requires: walking, bending, stooping, standing and the ability to lift 50 lbs. The person in this position must have an attention to detail and respect for Market, city and county property. They are expected to become familiar with aspects of their community and anticipate where they may be needed next. Attributes needed to succeed in this position include the ability to work well without supervision, set realistic goals, and act effectively and calmly when faced with a crisis.

Site Crew members should be familiar with Market policy. A certification in Rescue Breathing and CPR techniques is a plus.Market apparel and a name tag must be worn while on duty, these will be provided at no cost to the employee. The Site Crew Member will be part of a team responsible for use and monitoring of safety equipment such as, flagging, fencing, cones and stanchions. They will also help monitor parking by members on-site.

Wage: $15.26/hr. to start. Job is temporary for three weeks. Upon a satisfactory evaluation, job becomes permanent.
